Help!

I have been looking into a part time job for myself recently for two reasons. One. We need the extra money. Two. I need adult interaction/time away from the house and goob!

Honestly, some days I wish I could go back and redo things.

I graduated college in 2009 with a dual degree in elementary education/american studies. I had a 3.7 GPA. I worked my butt off in college and I was proud of my accomplishments. I student taught kindergarten, a bilingual classroom, in a poor district. I loved every single second of it. Oh, I think about those days, as tough as they were, and I can't help but smile. I got GREAT recommendation letters from my cooperating teacher, supervisor, and college professor.

However, the economy sucked. I could not find a job. I had one interview (which I bombed). So, I started subbing. I hated it. I hated not knowing what I was going to find each day. I did that for a few months then I found out I was pregnant. Awesome.

I had such horrible morning sickness that I missed so many days of subbing. The mornings were horrible for me. Once, April hit, I quit subbing and just worked at my lovely job of scooping waterice and making beautiful ice cream cones! (I can twirl with the best of them!)

Then I had Mady. Matt went on deployment. I never started my career. It makes me sad some days.

Because teaching is something that I love/loved to do and actually had confidence in.

Some days I just want to go back and do it full time. Other days not so much.

Then tutoring came into play and I loved it. I tutored a boy who was 13 in math, reading, writing, etc. Honestly, it got me out of the house for 2 hours twice a week and brought in a little something extra. It made me smile.

Then we moved to Virginia and I had to give that up. We don't have any help down here (I only have said that a billion times but it makes everything more difficult!) and Matt schedule of a 1 pm to 9 pm shift is kind of hard to work with.

I want to start tutoring again. I think it will be good for me both mentally and financially.

Only if we could find some way to make it work....

Any ideas? I am totally open to suggestions! I am at a lost.

  1. If you cant get into subbing/teaching now, go to an "ice cream place". I will give you a great reconmendation...lol. Otherwise, try doing a visiting to either elderly community, or childrens hospital or something that will make you feel good about helping others. Even if no money in the beginning, self worth in helping others means soooo much more. Keep your chin up!!!

  2. Look into daycare jobs. Teaching the 4 and 5 year olds usually requires a degree and depending on where you work mady could come with you and go with the kids her age for a very big discount. Just a thought!

  3. Tutor at your place. Have the kid come there so you can still watch Mady??
